What you need
What to wear
Thermal top (long or short sleeved depending on the weather)
Fleece top
Trekking trousers (not jeans or cotton material) or similar
Comfortable thick socks
Comfortable walking boots (shoes ok for low level walks)
Gaiters are not always essential, but help keep feet and legs warm and dry in wet weather and can help reduce the risk of tick bites
On all walks you will need
A rucsac, with a lid that closes (i.e. not a dufflebag style backpack) that is waterproof enough to keep your belongings dry if it rains and big enough for your personal items (usually around 30 –35 litres)
Waterproof jacket (with hood) and trousers – these don’t need to be expensive, but they do need to keep you dry!
Warm hat and gloves – it can be cold on the hills even on a nice summers day
Spare warm clothing e.g. a warm fleece top or lightweight duvet jacket
Packed lunch and snacks
Drinks – I would suggest a minimum of 1 litre. If it is cold a warm drink from a flask is lovely
Mobile phone / camera with a means of keeping it dry in the rain ( I use a ziplock freezer bag)
Any personal medication or sanitary products (and small ziplock bag for any waste)
Depending on the season - sunscreen/ sunhat / sunglasses / midge repellent / midge net
Just ask if you don't have any of the above items - we may have spares we can lend.
What you might like to bring
Map and compass
Personal first aid kit with blister treatment
Hiking poles – these can be kneesavers on long descents and helpful for stream crossings
What I will be carrying for the group
Map and compass
Torch
Emergency survival bag and emergency group shelter
First aid kit
Trowel (for emergency toilet stops)
