Low level walks
Burns, Brochs and Castles
(well, only one castle!)
This lovely walk takes in the delightful footpaths to the waterfall around Big Burn at Golspie , before heading along to explore the Iron Age broch of Carn Liath. We then wander back along the shore past fairytale Dunrobin Castle with lots of time to view the seabirds and seals along this section of coast
10Km on footpaths (1 section of approx 100m off footpath) 3-4hours
Cnoc Fyrish
Explore the tracks, monuments and nature of Easter Ross's iconic hill
Various routes available from 6 Km to 10 Km
Footpaths with some short steep sections
Lily Loch and Loch an Eilean
This delightful walk near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park meanders through beautiful Scots Pine and Juniper woodland to Lily Loch before making our way over to walk round Loch an Eilean (Loch of the Island) with its castle on the island.
12 Km on footpaths 4-5 hours
Ruthven Barracks, Woods of Glen Tromie and Insh Marshes
We start at the distinctive 18th Century Ruthven Barracks, making our way over moorland to the beautiful woods of Glen Tromie before wandering back along the Insh Marshes National Nature Reserve on the River Spey floodplain with the opportunity to visit the bird hides to see what is around.
11 Km on footpath (occasionally rough) 4-5 hours
Torridon low level route
We leave from the Beinn Eighe carpark, and make our way into the gap between the mighty Torridon peaks of Liathach and Beinn Eighe. We work our way around the back of Liathach with stunning views. The path becomes a rougher and a bit boggy in places as we wander below Liathach, Beinn Dearg and Beinn Alligan, before descending into the beautiful pine woods beside the river to our pick up location.
12 Km on mostly rough footpaths 4-5 hours
Many other options available to suit your ability and time available
Mountain Walks
Where to begin!
The list below is just a sample of our more popular walks but we are happy to help you achieve any walk in the North Highlands
Achnashellach - Teahouse - Coulin Pass circular
This lovely walk takes us up a rough rocky path beside a beautiful stream into the stunning Coire Lair before descending to the Teahouse Bothy (great lunch spot!) before picking up the estate tracks which follow the route of the Coulin Pass, part of an ancient long distance droving route from Poolewe to the South.
This is a fantastic route for getting up into the mountains without climbing any big hills.
13 Km on rocky and rough paths and estate tracks 4-5 hours
Meall a' Bhuachaille
This hill is a great introduction to hillwalking!
We have great views onto the mountains of the Cairngorm Plateau as we catch our breath on the well made path which ascends from Glenmore near Aviemore. We have time to take stunning photos as we enjoy time at the summit before descending the path to Ryvoan bothy - we may take our packed lunches inside or outside the bothy depending on the weather.
We then wander down the track to the beautiful Lochan Uaine (Green Lochan) and then through the pine woods back to our start point. For the adventurous you can finish the day with a swim from the sandy beach of Loch Morlich
9Km on paths, rough and steep in places 4-5 hours
N.B. we usually avoid this walk on summer weekends as the area becomes very busy and parking difficult
Cairngorm and the Northern Corries
We leave from the ski centre carpark and make our way up Windy Ridge to the Munro summit of Cairngorm with its expansive views (weather permitting!) We continue over the summit above the ski area before traversing along the top of the 2 Northern Corries to a viewpoint overlooking the Lairig Ghru and then descending below the Corries to our start point.
12Km on a mix of mountain paths and off path, steep and rough in places
Cairngorm the Quiet Way
This alternative route to the summit of Cairngorm is rougher but to our mind much more enjoyable, ascending from the Ciste carpark up the side of Strath Nethy, taking in the camouflaged shelter of El Alamein if time and weather permit before continuing to the Munro summit of Cairngorm. Ptarmigan are often visible on this route. Descent above the Ciste gully of the ski centre or via ascent route.
11 Km on a mix of mountain paths and off path, steep and rough in places
Ben Wyvis
Ben Wyvis is a huge mountain massif, with a well established path, but we can help you explore the hidden side of the mountain as well, with a traverse of the hill from the West at Garbat through to Glen Glass.
Standard route (out and back) 13 Km
Traverse 20Km
The Hills of Assynt
Possibly our favourite part of Scotland
Come and explore the Inselbergs of this unique landscape - Suilven, Cul Mor and Cul Beag, Canisp, Quinaig - you pick!
Walk lengths from 12 Km to 20 Km
The above are only a selection - walks can be tailored to your specific requirements
